Best wishes to Rachel Canning who has served as our Director of Internal and External Organizing for about three years. Rachel is leaving to become Political Director of “For Our Futures,” a PAC of labor organizations working to elect pro-labor candidates.
PFT Internal Organizer, Chris George, is anxiously awaiting the arrival of his second child in early July. Chris will be taking a six-week paternity leave when the baby arrives through the rest of July and part of August. Starting July 1, Chris will serve as our new Director of Internal and External Organizing.
With the approval of the PFT Executive Board, we have hired two PFT Executive Board members to come into the office on specific days this summer to help us, to work on important projects, and to learn about the day-to-day workings of our unions. We heartily welcome: Hannah McCarthy (10 days—VP for Secondary Schools/Brashear) and Naomi Mattarock (20 days—Trustee/Roosevelt). A big thank you also to Leah Lipner (V-P for Elementary Schools/Faison), who has offered to volunteer some time to work with us at the PFT!
Thanks to those of you who applied to help us in some other part-time positions this summer here at the PFT. Once again, a great help to us, and a great training and learning experience for our members. Dan Kliber (Brashear) will be joining us as our PFT Social Chairperson! He has already shared a number of great ideas for Final Friday and other events—so stay tuned and be prepared for great fun!
Shellie Tantlinger (Brashear to Beechwood, part-time PFT EC Organizer) and Danielle Leach (Brashear, and newly graduated PFT Teacher Leader will be our two great leaders to make the Labor Day Parade and Picnic the best ever. We’ll be having our first Labor Day Parade Committee Meeting soon—sign up to join the fun by clicking here!
Lastly, I want to thank our PFT Recording Secretary, Jeremiah Dugan, for his years of service as our PAC Chair here at the PFT. Jeremiah has stepped down as PAC Chair, but we will still be working with him as the PAC Treasurer and as our Recording Secretary. Saul Straussman (Allderdice/E-Board), who has been serving as the Vice-Chair of the PAC Committee will be stepping up to Chair.
