Expert National Board trainer Rosalie Dibert will conduct National Board Certification training at the PFT during the 2016-17 school year. Informational meetings about NBC training will take place at 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm on Wednesday, September 7th at the PFT building.
The benefits of holding a National Board Certification include:
- — Strengthen professional practice
- — Participate in meaningful and rigorous professional development
- — Help students succeed
- — Help to enhance the teaching and counseling professions
- — Join 125 PPS teachers who are NBCTs
- — Earn an additional $4,600/year in PPS – every year for the next 10 years
The entire program consists of four (4) graduate level courses through East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. The courses can be taken for graduate level credit or continuing education credits through the Intermediate Unit. The cost of a 3-credit course from East Stroudsburg is $1,669 per course. The cost for I.U. credits is $600 per course. The entire program can be completed in a single year and earns 12 graduate level credits. Again, the additional salary earned for a PPS teacher with a NBC is $4,600 per year. National Board Certification needs to be renewed every 10 years.
The certification is granted by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). The fee to NBPTS is $475 per course, but $375 is paid towards the NBPTS fee by East Stroudsburg U. upon completion of each course.
In the past, some teachers were able to receive the training at a lower cost (but not earning graduate credits). The foundation funding and NBPTS financial support that happened in the past does not exist for this training.
The classes start on September 13th and continue on almost every Tuesday throughout the school year until mid-May (see PFT calendar for exact schedule).
There is no professional development or college degree that is more closely linked to student success than National Board Certification. Consider attending one of the two September 7th meetings (3:30 pm or 4:30 pm) to find out more. RSVP by calling the PFT at 412-431-5900.
