Our Recommit Campaign has slowed down slightly over the summer—but we are kicking it up as we look ahead to a new school year with a series of home visits by member activists!
Starting next week, members will be visiting the homes of members and non-members who have not yet recommitted (or committed) to the PFT. We’re visiting to talk about our union, our Recommit Campaign and the critical value and power of unions in the face of billionaire forces like Betsy DeVos insistent upon destroying them.
Never has the power and promise of unions been more evident than simply looking across the country this year. We have seen thousands of teachers, in Arizona, Oklahoma and our next-door neighbor West Virginia, standing up and standing together for their rights, their professions and their students. They stood fast for their schools and for our profession and as a result, they improved their contracts, their pay and their job security.
Never has this power been more evident in Pittsburgh, when we all stood together to demand a fair contract last spring. PFT members certainly demonstrated we are a force to be reckoned with, and that we don’t back down.
We need every member to contribute to our collective strength!
Our Recommitment Numbers are around 83% going into the school year. We will keep working for our union and our goal is nothing less than the 100% mark. Have you recommitted yet? If you haven’t recommitted yet, why not? Call Nina at 412-431-5900.
Look for member door-knockers starting next week, or maybe even expect a call from me!
