PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers (PFT) will Rally for Public Education and help staff Summer Dreamer Camp locations at two Pittsburgh public schools as part of their support for the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) National Convention in Pittsburgh from July 13 through July 16.
“We’re honored to be the host city for our national convention, and more determined than ever to make the kind of noise only united unions can make,” said PFT President Nina Esposito-Visgitis. “While the rally for funding public education in the face of the terrible Janus decision by the Supreme Court is critical—what’s most important is that we, as a union, stay strong, committed, and united.”
A massive rally and March is planned for Saturday July 14th at 3:30 PM starting at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and culminating on the Rachel Carson Bridge.
In addition, the union’s community focus will be on display at two Pittsburgh Public Schools on Thursday, July 12, as part of the AFT Gives Back program. The AFT will donate 500, leveled books to both Arlington K-8 and Martin Luther King K-8 as part of the Summer Dreamers Camp celebration.
Themed book nooks, reading circles, and hands-on summer-learning activities will highlight events with campers at the schools and times below:
KING: Thursday, July 12, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
ARLINGTON: Thursday, July 12th, 11:00 am – 3:30 pm
